But when a mage joins the mission, claiming to be sent by the Council to help handle Hadrian, Caled is not as pleased as he should be. He doesn't trust the mage's story, even though Manix does. In the end neither Caled nor Hadrian can stop the mage from taking away Hadrian's memories. The result is a Hadrian who is both the most innocent man Caled knows, and the most dangerous who has ever walked Juxtan. Caled has no idea how to influence a lover who does not even remember him.
